Hanging Sink Basket
One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone leaves a wet sponge on the counter and it grows a colony of bacteria that have the power to make your hands smell like you stuffed them in a carcass of a dead animal for the next 48 hours. I HATE that.
Other sink peeves include a cluttered looking area around the sink and the ring of soap/gunk/funk that gathers around the soap bottle when it sits on the counter all day. Sick dog.
I also like to have the sink inside free of clutter so I can quickly wash a dish or two.
My solution?
Hang a small basket to hold the just-wrung sponge, dish soap and scrubber.
Ketchup Soap Dispenser
I also hate using too much dish soap. Since I only use Dawn (my mother in law is a Dawn evangelist and converted me months after I married her son) it is very concentrated. I also think the bottles are ugly and bulky.
Solution?
Pour Dawn into a sqeezey ketchup bottle until it is a quarter full. Fill the rest with water. Then when you just have one glass to wash, squirt a little shot and boom. Our soap lasts forever. We buy dishsoap like, twice a year.
Mirrors
No shocker here. They are a cheap way to double your light and the look of your space. Every room in our home has at least one mirror in it. Putting a mirror on the ground can be a great way to keep kids entertained and distract people from noticing some of the unavoidable eye sores in your home (we rent, so there are some things we just can't change).
Secret Blanket Storage
Which one of those pillows is holding a blanket inside? Any guesses?
It's the blue stripey one.
Check it:
This trick works best with thicker and textured fabric since sometimes the blanket can look lumpy if you don't carefully fold and stuff the case. I love the feel of this fuzzy brown blanket but it is straight up ug.
Hanging Foam Frames
I had a Shutterfly gift card I held on to for AN ENTIRE YEAR as I waited for a sale on large prints. They always have sales on books and small prints but very rarely 20x30 prints. Once I got mine I wondered how I could mount them to our cool brick wall (again, we are renters).
Solution?
Adhere photo to dollar store foam core and hang by fishing twine. Put little metal hooks into the top corners and boom - hang them. Problem solved.
Well, that's all for today. I'm back to my design work. Happy Leap Day.
